Lochlan

This weekend was the first time I met my ten year old cousin Lochlan.  Lochlan lives in California, so it has been hard to get time for everyone to be able to go out and meet him.  His mother Sarah, who is my first cousin and Lochlan, decided that they wanted to come out for the week for Thanksgiving.  Lochlan is on the autism spectrum and is a very special little kid.  He has very minor issues but you can tell how his autism affects some parts of his daily life.  Lochlan is smart kid who loves to run around and play.  Lochlan loves to wrestle and it is entertaining to see him pretend to jump off the top rope and land on his other cousins and myself.  He also loves to show you his karate moves. He will bounce around throw pretend punches and kicks.  While he does this he yells his favorite quote, “Float like a butterfly, Sting like a bee.”  Getting to know Lochlan has been a great experience. He is here until the Friday after thanksgiving and I am excited to learn more about him. It is truly amazing to see how he has accepted his autism and tries his best to inspire other people around him.

Grammar Point:
Verb- a word that characteristically is the grammatical center of a predicate and expresses an act, occurrence, or mode of being, that in various languages is inflected for agreement with the subject, for tense, for voice, for mood, or for aspect, and that typically has rather full descriptive meaning and characterizing quality but is sometimes nearly devoid of these especially when used as an auxiliary or linking verb.

Grammar Exercise:

What verbs do you see in my paragraph? What are some verbs that describe what you do in your daily life. Write three sentences using some of the verbs you use in your daily life.

  1. I enjoyed reading about your cousin Lochlan. Fine entry with all the parts! Think about how you could simplify the definition of verb for ESL students.
